Projects & Initiatives: Hartcliffe & Withywood Lighthouse

Lighthouse: Open to the all in the community

What’s the vision, mission or aim of the project / initiative?
The overall vision is to have Lighthouses across the two communities; houses that offer Spiritual support to local residents. They give them a chance to explore the relevance of Christianity in everyday life. The project has been running since 2002.

Who do you work with & where are you based?
The project is open to anyone who lives in Hartcliffe and Withywood or the surrounding communities. We run two groups from houses in Hartcliffe. We also run a service once a month from a local teenage parents project. There is an hour prayer meeting every Monday praying for Lighthouse, the local Churches and the estates. The Teenage Parents Project is in Withywood.

Describe some of the activities you get up to
Food, testimonies, bible study, baptisms, socials, trips, clean ups, service, prayer, support residents.

Are you seeking volunteers? If so what kind, abilities, frequency, time commitment etc
We would like people to help with informal children’s work, this takes place every Friday from 6.30 to 9.30pm. We are always looking for people to give their testimonies-any Friday. We also run community events on an ad-hoc basis and would like to have a list of people who will volunteer for these events.

What are three longer-term prayer points?

  • For more new people to attend
  • Support for people who attend to take an active responsibility
  • A sense of community amongst the Christians in the area.
