Friday 13 March 2009: Leading what matters to God - Mark Stibbe

Co-hosted with CET, the George Müller Foundation, Mike Hill (Bishop of Bristol) and Nigel Coles (Regional Minister Team Leader for the West of England Baptist Asociation).

This is an Invitation to Church Leaders, homegroup, activity and Christian organisation leaders to a Leaders Seminar on Friday 13 March 2009, from 10.30am to 1.00pm with Mark Stibbe speaking on "Leading what matters to God".

Mike has said: "There are plenty of leaders who apply their efforts to leading things that appear to be of little consequence to God. Presumably, the primary task of the Christian leader is to seek to lead what he or she and their people perceive to be the will of God. The chilling warning in the Sermon Mount that "not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven" is something that all leaders need to hold before them. I would perceive that a talk with this title would give wide options for the speaker to address what is specifically distinctive about the Christian leader."

Nigel commented: "What matters to God" is clearly what every leader says they're concerned about, but what really does? How easy is it to slip into leading a church for the sake of leading an organisation, which serves its own needs rather than those of God's kingdom?"

Mark's passion is the Father heart of God and 'signs and wonders and evangelism' and he brings his recent Chorleywood experience of pastoring in a church growth context and moving out into new phases of church life.

The meeting is at Woodlands Church, Belgrave Rd, BS8 2AA (parking at Clifton Down Shopping Centre Sainsbury's car park). This will be a great opportunity to network with leaders from many different churches. The cost is £5 payable on the door.

Saturday 14 March 2009: Celebration Evening - Mark Stibbe

This is an open invitation to when Mark Stibbe speaks at the Celebration Evening at Woodlands Church at 7.00pm on Saturday 14 March, with no charge or booking. Do feel free to bring a group, but come early for a seat.

Monday 27 April 2009: Releasing the Energies of the People of God - Bishop Mike Hill

Led by Mike Hill, the Bishop of Bristol.

12 noon - 1:30 pm, Upper Hall at Woodlands Christian Centre, Belgrave Road, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 2AA - please see the map but note that the arrow points to the wrong corner of the street.

Parking can be limited (it is a working day and lunchtime), however there is good parking at the nearby Sainsbury's just a short 5 minute walk from Woodlands as well as some on the street. The event is open to anyone who is interested, so please feel free to pass this invitation on to your contacts.

Saturday 9 May 2009: Overcoming Depression

Overcoming Depression - Mental Health in a Spiritual Context. Led by Dr Maarit Brooks, who has run courses in Rwanda teaching how to help survivors of the genocide recover from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and is a member of Christ Church, Clifton.

Saturday 9 May 2009, 9:30 am - 4 pm, Christ Church, Clifton.

We live in a society that professes to offer us everything we want - the newest technological product to enhance existence, fairtrade food for the fair-minded, fast food for the furiously busy, even the space to define oneself as one would like to be defined. Yet not only is depression currently the most common psychological illness but it is on the rise. In fact, the World Health Organisation estimates that by 2020 it will be second only to heart disease as the leading cause of illness and death. Christians are not immune to depression.
