Nelson Mandela
Dear All,
Next Thursday 3rd February, Nelson Mandela will be coming to London
at the invitation of the Make Poverty History coalition to endorse the
campaign. He will address a rally in Trafalgar Square, central London.
The event will start at 11.30am and is expected to finish by 1pm,
however people are encouraged to arrive earlier because of the large
number of people expected. More information will be posted on our
website (www.christianaid.org/campaign) in the coming days.
We appreciate this is very short-notice for the event, and many of
you have already helped us mobilise people for other events but we have
only just received the details to pass on to campaigners. We wanted to
make you aware of what is happening and would be grateful if you could
pass on the information to campaigners from your area who may wish to
attend the event.
Those attending are encouraged to bring along their own white arm
bands as well as placards and banners with the demands of the coalition -
Trade Justice, Drop the Debt, More and Better Aid.
Trafalgar Square is close to Charing Cross Underground station, but
also Embankment/Leicester Square station. The square is also served by
the following bus routes 3, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 23, 24, 29, 53, 77A,
88, 91, 139, 159, 176, 453. For those looking for refreshments there are
a number of cafés in the streets around the square.
Thanks,
Tom Baker, Campaign
Events Assistant, Christian Aid
